And exhale…
I have made less progress on decluttering than I thought I would at this point. I need to focus on my personal clutter and instead have managed to only make progress in areas of work.
I got my work emails down to zero before the end of last month and last night threw away, shredded, and filed over 4 1/2 years of work items that had piled onto my desk. Most were things I was supposed to read and never got around to or files of information that are no longer current. When the last file was in place and the last paper went through the shredder I felt a weight off my shoulder. Like the women in Waiting to Exhale it was as if I was holding my breath and now I could breathe freely.
But the part that makes me the most happy is that while I picked through the old papers they told a story of my career decisions and the growth I had accomplished in my position. From hard times and conflicts to celebrations an accomplishments my desk reflected the ups and downs of my work life. Since I am moving and will be telecommuting it is important that I not carry work clutter into my home environment. I do a good enough job creating clutter without any help. With the extra weight and unnecessary paper destroyed I am free to move to the next stage of my career and new work environment lighter than before. aaahhhhh!
